This spectacular and substantial piece of jewellery is hand-crafted by silversmiths in Galicia, northern Spain, close to the route of El Camino de Santiago.

St James was an original disciple (and possibly a cousin) of Jesus. So this cross has significant Christian overtones. James is believed to be buried in Santiago, northwest Spain and, since the Middle Ages, countless pilgrims have visited his tomb in the Cathedral - hence the making of The Way of Saint James (El Camino) - the pilgrimage across Spain to visit this Cathedral. So the Cross of Saint James reminds people of this journey . . this 'Camino' (and journeys in general), with his cross as an 'espada' or sword protector.
