New Vinyl Record - Coathangers, The - Nosebleed Weekend (Rose Colored Vinyl)

When The Coathangers started up in 2006, their aspirations were humble. "I think all

bands in their early twenties start for fun," says guitarist/vocalist Julia Kugel when talking about their early years of cheeky no-wave and irreverent garage rock. But Julia and her bandmates Meredith Franco (bass/vocals) and Stephanie Luke (drums/vocals) were serious about their craft, and that combination of modest outside expectations and absolute dedication to their music made for exhilarating live shows and contagious records. Ten years later, The Coathangers are still going strong, and while their palette has expanded over the years to touch upon hip-shakin' classic rock, soulful country ballads, and golden oldies pop, their primary attack strategy still relies heavily on the jagged hooks and boisterous choruses of their formative years. Their fifth album Nosebleed Weekend retains all the devil-may-care magnetism and serrated instrumentation of their debut, but it flourishes with a decade's worth of songwriting discipline and chemistry. Nosebleed Weekend kicks off with "Perfume", a song that marries sultry pop vocals with toothy guitar riffs in a manner that would make Ann and Nancy Wilson proud. It's hard to imagine The Coathangers writing a song this accessible in their early years, but in 2016 it fits perfectly into their canon. From there the band launches into "Dumb Baby", which harkens back to the gritty neo-garage rock of Murder City Devils. Longtime fans who still clamor for their brash post-punk angle will be immediately satiated by "Squeeki Tiki". And after hearing the noisy loud-quiet-loud bombast of "Excuse Me?" it's no wonder that Kim Gordon has become an outspoken fan of the band. It's an eclectic album inspired by life on the road, lost loved ones, and Kugel's recent move to Southern California. "We always say that each record is a snapshot of our life at the time," Kugel says. "As far as style... it's just what came out of us at that point." So whether it's the foreboding garage rock of the title track, the post-punk groove of "Burn Me", the stripped-down pop of "I Don't Think So", or the dynamic grunge of "Down Down", The Coathangers command their songs with passion and authority.

Time will tell
My dog can chew through anything so I didn't have high hopes but she is obsessed with this thing and it's really held up so far. She hasn't had it long, but it's looking good. It's already outlasted her other chews so I count that as a win. My only concern is that it could be too hard, and she might crack a tooth. I only let her have it when I'm there to supervise and if she gets a little too aggressive with it, I take it away for a while. We got this because my mom's dog has had one that's lasted a few months and he is another super-chewer that goes through toys like they're nothing. So, if you're looking for something that seems to hold it's own against a toy-destroying power chewer, this one is worth the price. It does have a fairly strong bacon smell at first (that will cling to your hands if you handle it), but that fades pretty quickly once it's out of the box.

Still standing
My one dog is a super chewer but the other has more delicate jaws and tends to be susceptible to hurting herself on some of his more sturdy toys. I grabbed this on a whim because it looked a bit narrower (good for my girl) but still sturdy (good for my boy and my furniture). First of it was definitely what I was hoping for in size. While sturdy it is still thin enough that my girl doesn't hurt herself when she inevitably runs away with it when the other dog isn't looking. However, it did take both dogs a good deal of coaxing to take an interest. Eventually I ended up hitting the toy with some gravy from their food before they really wanted anything to do with it. Whatever the scent of the toy is it clearly wasnt enough motivation for either of them. (Hence the four stars) but the gravy worked as an attractant for my dogs at least. And now for durability. It's extremely sturdy. Despite the rocky start it is now one of my boys go too toys when he gets to pick something to play with. My girl likes it but it is certainly more his toy then hers. Which is good because his jaws are insanely destructive and so far this toy is holding up far better then the other two I purchased at the same time, and as it's one of his favorites it's not from lack of use! Over all this toy is great if you have a super chewed and/or a dog with thinner jaws who need a good quiet time toy. If your dog isn't as instantly curious as you'd like I recommend some sort of attractant.

Greatly enjoyed the toy
Rambo really love it. Great chew toy for dogs that love to chew/tear up most toys of their 🧸 toys.

A challenging chew.
We have 3 Gordon Setters, 2 of which like toys to chew on. These last a long time. The only thing I would caution ⚠️ you about is that over time, these develop sharp edges. If they rub the toy on you, you will know it. Especially if you are wearing shorts. I do like these toys for their longevity.
